State Police Lt. Emmanuel Gutierrez said the evacuation Monday was ordered around 12:30 p.m. after two threatening phone calls were made by a male caller. Gutierrez says he didn’t know the nature of the threat but one call came to the office of Gov. Susana Martinez and another was made to another office.
He says the caller did not make a threat to an individual but to the Capitol.
It was not known if Martinez was in the building at the time the calls were made.
No other details were available.
The Legislature’s Investments and Pensions Oversight Committee meeting was canceled and staff were told the leave.
Officials say only essential staff were allowed to remain.
